After years on hold, Palm Jebel Ali returns, greenlit by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai. The man-made island is twice the size of Palm Jumeirah and will have an area of 13.4 sq km, add 110 km of coast to Dubai and be home to more than 80 hotels and resorts.
It will provide new beachfront homes for around 35,000 families. It also promises: “[A] wide choice of entertainment and leisure facilities that will contribute to Dubai’s tourism sector,” said the Dubai Media Office.
30 percent of the giga-project will run on renewable energy, testament to the nation’s sustainability commitments
The Dubai Ruler said: “Its marine and green pastures will provide housing with the highest quality of life and its visitors and tourists will enjoy more than 80 hotels and resorts that provide beautiful tourist experiences for them and their families.
“We announced our goal to double Dubai’s economy by 2033 and every day we add a new brick in building the most beautiful city in the world”.
No opening dates were shared, though the site falls in line with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 by 2033 and the the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.
Setting a model in contemporary urban planning practices, Palm Jebel Ali will feature mixed-use walkable neighbourhoods, incorporate smart city technologies and sustainability practices, as well as provide a diverse range of mobility options for residents, visitors and communities. This will position Palm Jebel Ali as a global benchmark for waterfront living, as well as contribute to the transformation of the landscape of Dubai.
